Life history: | Mantricker was the ninth chief of the Wolfriders and got his name from his dealings with the humans, ever tricking them. These tricks were generally good-natured though, like a contest of who could think up the best pranks between Mantricker and his appropriately named
human counterpart Demontricker. Together they had wisely agreed to keep their people separated, and even joined forces to prevent the then Shaman of Gotara from burning the forest down to cleanse it from demons. Over the years the humans became more and more numerous and came ever closer to the Wolfrider's holt. Mantricker desperately tried to chase them away, doing everything in his power, eventually resorting to stealing a child and, when the humans had tracked him down, cutting its face to scare them and demanding that they leave the forest. He only succeeded in angering them, and they threw their spears at him, one of them seriously wounding Mantricker. His wolf-friend pulled the spear out and took him back to the tribe, but Mantricker was too far gone and could only admit to his son Bearclaw that he had been a fool, then he died. |
